Along the way....

enjoying our 80* temps tonight, Tony, Em and I went for a walk around the neighborhood. It was delightful... and Em, minus her daily Adderall, was quite entertaining. As we walked by the house where the family owns several bunnies that are allowed to freely amble around the lower level, Emily reminisced about being allowed the visit the "bunny house." After rambling on about them, she looked at me and very seriously asked, "Um... do those people actually LIVE in that house WITH the bunnies?" Not sure what she was thinking....

Not much further down the road she asked, "Do birds have nerves?" She seemed clearly alarmed when I said they do.... "Do trees have nerves?" LOL No... they don't have brains... I'm letting that one sink in a bit. And the rest of the rambling... I don't even know. We'll see what our next walk produces!

Makin' Plans... the teenager way

Katie, after coming home from school: L is coming over today to work on our project (that is due next week). We figured we'd just go to the park and work there because it's so nice out today.

Me: No. You can sit outside at the table on the patio and work on it there.

Katie: But why? Why can't we go to the park?

Me: Because I can't see you there.

Katie: What do you think we are going to do?

Me: .... do you really need to ask?

Lunch Date?

maybe not!

Me: Ah, Wednesday lunch is scrambled eggs and waffles.

Kt: Oh, YUM! Waffles!!

Me: That does sound good. Maybe I'll have to come have lunch with you!

Kt: Oh, um, it's not as good as it sounds. Trust me.;-)

Me: So, what time is your lunch?

Kt: Good night, mommy!

Library

Katie was just telling me that she and her friend are working on a history project together and they have planned on spending tomorrow (day off school) together working on it. I asked her if they needed to go to the library to work on it and she replied, "What's a library?" If she asks me that again, I'll sing her the song I sang to Em this morning at the bus stop... that one they used to sing weekly at the storytime we attended AT THE LIBRARY with Miss Rita...

Friends, friends, one, two, three.... all my friends are here with me!

I have more....

Sick-o

Yesterday:

Em: I could not fall asleep last night. I kept on waking up dad.

Me: I heard!

Em: Oh, when you went to bed last night, was your pillow wet?

Me: (giving suspicious bordering on evil eye)

Em: That was me.

Gross. And today... home sick. Guess I'm next!

Dinner Conversation - March 5

Over grilled ribs, baked potatoes and rolls on a very laid back Saturday evening, we talked about the epidemiology of diseases - specifically, malaria, smallpox and AIDS. We also touched on the Ebola virus, how the speed in which it kills it victims actually hinders its growth and how the inventor of the smallpox vaccine used it on one of his children first.

No, thankfully in more ways than one, not a typical dinner conversation.

Gettin' Stuff Done!

The girls were upstairs "doing homework"... and it was getting really noisy. Tony yelled up to them, "HEY, get your blankety blank homework done!" (that's a direct quote - I'm not substituting anything!) Katie yelled back, while giggling, "What did you just call my homework?"

I Can Read!

Katie just said to Tony:

Oh... your shirt says "inspired"..... I always thought it said "inspi red". (Gap - red campaign)

And she's in GT reading.=O

To Do List

I just overheard Em say this to Tony:

You know what we have to do tomorrow? We either have to go to the zoo, go rollerskating or go to the aquarium. We have to do at least one of those things tomorrow because they are all on my "to do" list. I NEED to do them!

Tony basically ignored her. Somehow, I don't think Em's to-do list correlates with his!

Some people...

Tony: So, you went to the grocery store today. Did you buy me some.... oh, I guess not.

Me: What? Coke?

Tony: No, sparkling grape juice. (this has become the new "gold" around the house.)

Me: No, I bought you some Filet Mignon, which is like 100 times better than that junk.

Tony: Oh, well, I guess....

(Seriously??)

What did she say?

Tony and I arrived home today to a shocked 13 year old who could not wait to tell us....

Kt: Em said her teacher told Brian not to say "Oh, Poop" but instead to say "Damn it!"

Em: Yeah, she said that!! That's how I know it's OK to say "Damn it!"

Me: I thought your teacher told Brian to say "Oh, darn."

Em: Oh.... yeah.... that is what she said. Oops!

(And just where do you think she heard.... oh, I don't even want to know!)

Walkers

Returning from an amazing Hibachi Birthday dinner for moi, we pulled into our neighborhood behind a veeeeerrrryyyy slow car. As it made it's u-turn in the entrance to our neighborhood, we noticed it was being driven by a student driver. Katie piped up, "That'll be me in a few years! But I'll be driving faster than that!

I replied, "That's what you think... and I'm not talking about the fast part, I'm talking about the driving part!"

She was not amused.

Square Pegs

Yesterday, we watched from our windows at our beach hotel, a man sweetly etch into the sand "Staci, Be My Valetine" (yes... with the misspelling!). Jokingly, I chided that it was going to take a long, long time for Tony to repeat this action with "Happy Birthday Deanna" the next morning. Of course, the 10 year old thought this would be a wonderful idea... and this morning they snuck out to give it a try. I couldn't resist the urge to peak at their work and found Tony out in the sand looking rather forlorn, Emily bundled up in her winter coat sitting on the boardwalk. I see how this goes! When I peaked the second time, there were footprints in the sand, a little swirl about halfway to the water and two Shengs retreating from the beach. Oh well.... better luck next idea! LOL

Can I Get You Something to Drink?

Tony, on his way out the door of our hotel room, heading for the vending machine: What would you like to drink?

Em: She just wants a Margherita.

Me: (Laughing) - Uh... how about a Fanta? or a water?

Tony, to Em: Do you even know what a Margherita is?

Em: Sure I do. It's 100% sugar!

Me: Mmmm... maybe I'll have one of those instead!

I think Em may have a future as a candy maker.... but I'm not betting on bartender just yet!

life untweeted

This blog is in response to many requests for, and many disdainful comments on FB, a collection of funny things that happen in our family. Many of them are our exact words, others are merely observations. While some believe these should be tweeted, I just can't see that they will fit into the 140 character rule. Our life is just too..... well, complicated. ;-) Enjoy!
